Raise your hand if you’ve seen Weber Grill’s social media photos. You all have! As such, you’ve very likely seen some of the expert grilled food photography offered up by Mr. Mike Lang. Mike is the official “Grillographer” for Weber Grills and is responsible for many of the great visuals the company has used over the last several years. I came across Mike per Craig Tabor’s suggestion. In fact, in this podcast episode I recorded with Big Green Craig, you can hear him say that he had someone in mind that I really needed to interview. Well, Mike was that guy!
It means a lot that Mike would take time out of his schedule to record not one, but two podcast episodes here. You see, on the first go around, I had a faulty mic cable, which made the recording all but unusable. Mike was gracious enough to speak with me again, in spite of all he has going. First class, all the way!
Here’s the recording of our chat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed sitting down to talk with Mr. Mike Lang.
Gear Mike Lang Mentions in This Episode
During this nearly hour-long conversation, Mike and I cover a lot of ground. Some of the tips he gives for improving the quality of food photos you take with your mobile phone refer to specific tripods and such. Here’s a short list:
Some of Mike Lang’s Favorite Food Photo Instagramers
Near the end of our talk, Mike kindly reminds me to allow for him to give shout-outs to a few Instagrammers (I don’t know if that’s even a term) who focus on food photography. They are as follows:
- Tony & Maribel (Sometimes it’s more than a perfect photo) Lifestyle
- Jamie Stuart NZ
- Ken Coleman
- Josh Bousell
- Josh Bernstein
