BBQ Sauce. To some it’s about like any other condiment. But to those of us who truly love all the special characteristics and subtle flavor a truly great BBQ sauce can impart to expertly prepared ‘cue, well… regular old KRAFT from the bottle just ain’t gonna cut it. Nope. We want something more. Maybe even something homemade.
I know a lot of competition BBQ pros for whom BBQ sauce making comes naturally, most notably of late is Rub Bagby of Swamp Boys BBQ.
To my knowledge, he’s not sold sauces before just recently, and it appears that his many years of Grand Champion BBQ experience have been expertly crafted into his amazing products. You can read more about them and even get a few bottles for yourself here.
So great, that’s some key info on how to get a killer Pro Quality BBQ Sauce, but what if you want to make your own? Where do you start? You can fire up the search engines, hit expert sites like the BBQ Brethren or the Smoke Ring. (Both excellent resources)
But if you want a cool new way to introduce yourself to the art of making your own BBQ Sauce, you might want to check out what Matt Coggin over at D.B.A. BBQ has going on. He’s offering monthly BBQ Sauce making classes at his Atlanta, GA location. I caught this post today and thought some of you who live in or near the “Hot-Lanta” area might want to check out what these guys have going on.
D.B.A. BBQ – BBQ Sauce Making Class To The Rescue
Beginning Wednesday, March 26, 2014, folks in the Atlanta area interested in learning more about making or perfecting BBQ Sauce can catch the class led by owner and pit boss Matt Coggin. Seems there will be a nice mix of creating and eating going on, as attendees be able to sample the sauces they prepare with a selection of tasty BBQ meats – in addition to a nice selection of D.B.A. BBQ’s expertly selected moonshine and bourbons!
Afterward, guests can take home the sauces they create after they’re bottled by D.B.A. team members for sharing with friends and family. I bet at least some of the creations wind up being pretty good! (Some may of course wind up getting the sour “um, hey now that’s interesting” face!)
I like the idea that guests will also be able to peek behind the scenes of the D.B.A. BBQ operation via a private tour of their smoker while also getting a few expert BBQ cooking tips.
